Today's blog title is a literal and a figurative one. We were all a little worn out from the big party yesterday, so we slept late and had a nice outdoor brunch. The main activity of the day was a visit to the Parc Coloma castle and rose garden. The rose garden ("rozentuin" in flemish)is one of the largest in Europe, containing over 3,000 varieties on 65,000 bushes. We had a leisurely stroll throughout the gardens under a hot sun. Our friend Hedwig was my model for smelling the rose in the top image. John is standing in the United Kingdom section of the international rose garden. Afterwards, we quenched our thirst in a nearby pub where John again had a religious experience. I preferred to consume my calories in the Belgian equivalent of a hot fudge sundae, except the chocolate came from an actual melted Belgian chocolate bar and the ice cream was locally made. Awesome! For dinner, Karen's aunt Nadia (shown on the right in the bottom photo) created a gourmet dinner out of leftovers. You can also see that the wine and beer flowed at dinner, where we all listened to classic Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, and Janis Joplin tunes.
