This Stevie Wonder song title popped into my head after last night's dinner in a private apartment building. The conference's invited speakers were taken for a 10+ course Chinese banquet in a restaurant with a commanding view of the Hong Kong skyline at night. Although the photo is a bit blurry I took it intentionally without the flash to show the colored laser light show that occurs nightly at 8PM. Hong Kong is like one giant Times Square. The need for electricity here, including air conditioning, must be massive. The dinner was delicious. I didn't take any photos because it was pretty tame by this blog's standards! However, the fish known as garoupa was especially good, served in a ginger soy sauce. Why superstitious? We ate on the 60th floor, but in the elevator after dinner, our hosts pointed out that we were actually at a much lower level than 60, due to the fact that there were no floors in the 40s. In fact, no 14th, 24th, 34th, or 54th floors either. Why? The number 4 in Chinese sounds like the word for death, and anything with 4 in it is bad luck! (Good thing the person who bought our former home at 4 Perry Street was not Chinese!) I asked if they had a problem with 13, as do many Manhattan skyscrapers, and they said no!
