Goin' to the Chapel (Hill)

June 7-8, 2011

I made a brief visit to the "sports crazy" town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina this week to give Grand Rounds in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. It was HOT---around 97 degrees with nearly 100 per cent humidity. Going in and out of buildings, between air conditioning and the heat was a shock. UNC is the home of one of the best basketball programs in the nation, and the enthusiasm for sports can be seen in the street signs, which are "Carolina blue." I stayed at the Carolina Inn, which is used by alumni and visiting parents. The passion for sports can even be seen in the workout facility, where the boxing bag carries an image of the arch rival wolf mascot from North Carolina State!
