Bird Watching on the Beagle Channel

Today was John's birthday and it was a beautiful sunny and relatively warm day. After taking an uphill walk into the Andes (the fitness centers are only open from 2PM until 10 PM in Argentina) we took a nature cruise on the Beagle Channel. The lower picture shows the colonies of emperor cormorants that we saw. They co-exist peacefully with the noisy sea lions that are not shown in this photo. We also saw rock cormorants. They were interesting because they were all nesting in nooks and crannies of the rocks. Shown here are the mating pairs, with the male feeding the female who is sitting on the eggs in the nest. The last spot on the cruise was "El Faro," or the "Lighthouse at the End of the World." By the way, I forgot to mention that we did not see much wildlife in the National Park yesterday but we did see a lone red fox, known as "zorro colorado" in Spanish.
