Tatooed Like Dali

June 25, 2013

The FMF meetings are legendary for their work hard/play hard schedule. Here is the scene after one of the conference dinners!
The FMF meetings have an almost religious revival-like quality and are organized in a very intentional way by their leader. Over 2000 people from 89 countries attended this particular meeting. The educational sessions start at 9 in the morning and end at 10 at night (to be followed by dinner events!). Needless to say, there was no time for touring.
One morning I was able to "escape" to take a walk on the beach into the town of Marbella. It is not easy to escape because, as one of the invited speakers, 2000 people know who you are! My walk was notable for a brief glimpse of the Rock of Gibraltar in the distance and some exceptional sand sculptures.
The highlights of Marbella were the old town and the Avenida del Mar, a long promenade facing the Mediterranean with copies of sculptures by Salvador Dali.
I also passed a shop that specialized in providing tattoos of Dali or his masterpieces!
