During our previous trip to Cancun in 2009 somehow John and I missed this legendary restaurant. In all of the guidebooks La Habichuela (translation=the string bean) is consistently ranked as the number one resturant for Caribbean and Mexican seafood dishes. Upon arrival we were greeted by the exotic scorpion fish in the tank. We were seated in a lovely garden on comfortable charming chairs, surrounded by art. The service was excellent. We enjoyed two different kinds of ceviches, guacamole, and the restaurant's signature dish, "cocobichuela." This is a lobster and shrimp seafood stew in a coconut curry sauce served in a green coconut (see top photo). It was a lovely and tranquil evening, especially after our busy day with all of the little cousins.
