One of the reasons we decided to vacation in Cancun was that my first cousin, Carmen, was taking her three sons, their wives, her seven grandchildren, and my "mother by marriage," Pat, to a resort near Cancun this week. Since this would be her (and our) first Christmas without my Dad it seemed fitting that we should all be together. To get to the "all inclusive" resort where they were staying we needed to rent a car and drive south. While renting a car is not as difficult as it was in Rhodes, Greece (see my prior posting June 2010), it is not as easy as you think it would be in a major tourist destination such as Cancun. After John's credit card and driver's license were xeroxed (we immediately envisioned the information being scanned and sold on the internet) we were issued what would be charitably described as a "jalopy." The car had multiple dents, one hubcap missing, and no gas, but it did get us to Puerto Morales, our destination. We had a fun afternoon with seven children under seven, although no conversation lasted for more than a few minutes. Getting all of the children to the luncheon buffet required the coordination of many adults. Somehow the three brothers and their wives managed to trade off supervisory duties so that each one could work out at the gym. Josh and Elliott enthusiastically pitched in with child care, as shown in the photos. The top one shows Elliott being given (according to the kids) a "five thousand hundred peso" sand massage. That cerveza in his left hand was part of the "spa" treatment!
