It Don't Matter if It's Black or White

June 21, 2014

On Saturday I went with some colleagues from Doha to Mathaf, the Modern Art Museum. There was an interesting multi-media student exhibit in which everything was in black and white.

It only struck me afterwards that there is a lot of black and white in Doha since the Qatari women dress in black and then men in white.

One anime drawing at which we paused had “never stop dreaming” written at the top. What is notable about this drawing is that it was made by a member of the Al-Thani family, who are the rulers of Qatar. If your name is Al-Thani you automatically get a large amount of money placed in your bank account each month even if you are a distant relative of the Emir. Thus, we were fairly confident that this young girl would never have to stop fulfilling her dreams!
